Temperature dips to 2°C in MP, icy winds tighten grip:Bhopal records coldest January night in a decade; dense fog blankets half the state

Biting cold and dense fog have tightened their grip on Madhya Pradesh, pushing night temperatures to record lows, disrupting transport, and forcing school closures across several districts. Bhopal has recorded its coldest January night in a decade, while large parts of the state remain under cold wave and cold day conditions. Dense fog covers over half of the state Thick fog continues to blanket more than half of Madhya Pradesh. Visibility remains poor in Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, and Chhatarpur. Fog has also affected Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa, Satna, Shahdol, and several other districts. Cold wave alert in central and western MP The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for Bhopal, Sehore, Rajgarh, and Shajapur. Severe cold wave conditions were reported in Bhopal and Rajgarh. Cold day conditions continue in Bhopal, Vidisha, Sehore, Shajapur, and Narsinghpur. Bhopal recorded a minimum temperature of 3.8°C after a sharp overnight fall of 5.6°C. This is the city’s coldest January night since 2015. Indore recorded 8.6°C, Gwalior 7.3°C, while Ujjain and Jabalpur recorded 7.8°C. Rajgarh coldest in the state at 2°C Rajgarh recorded the lowest temperature in Madhya Pradesh at 2°C. Kalyanpur in Shahdol recorded 2.8°C. Temperatures also dipped to 3.7°C in Shajapur, 3.8°C in Mandsaur, and 3.9°C in Sehore. Dense fog disrupts rail services Datia recorded dense fog with visibility dropping below 50 metres. Fog also affected Gwalior, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram. Several trains from Delhi, including Malwa and Sachkhand Express, were delayed by up to six hours. Schools closed in several districts Schools remain closed on Wednesday in Indore, Raisen, Gwalior, and Narmadapuram. In Bhopal, Dhar, Sehore, Anuppur, Barwani, Morena, and Khargone, schools will open only after 9 am. The state has been facing severe cold for the past three days. Schools were earlier closed in more than 20 districts, including Ujjain, Mandsaur, Vidisha, Jabalpur, Damoh, Sidhi, Betul, and Chhatarpur. Day temperatures also stay low Cold conditions persist during the day. Datia recorded a maximum temperature of 17.6°C. Gwalior remained below 19°C, while Bhopal and Damoh recorded 21.8°C. Madhya Pradesh has witnessed an unusually harsh winter this season. November was the coldest in 84 years, and December broke a 25-year record. January is now following the same pattern, with intense cold, dense fog, and prolonged cold wave conditions.
