The controversy that began in a government quarter at the Morena Police Line refuses to die down even after the death of a lawyer. New layers of the case involving a woman Sub-Inspector (SI) posted at Civil Lines police station, her fiancé—a Gwalior-based lawyer—and a constable have now emerged through call recordings made shortly before the lawyer took an extreme step and ended his own life. The deceased lawyer, Mrityunjay Chauhan, allegedly made several phone calls on December 14, hours before ending his life. In these calls, he spoke to the constable and later to the constable’s wife, expressing distress, anger, and a complete breakdown of trust over what he claimed to have witnessed on the night of December 12. Two audio clips, shared by Dainik Bhaskar (though not independently verified), capture Chauhan repeatedly stating that his life was shattered after what he saw inside the police quarter. He spoke about approaching senior police officers, going to the media, and seeking justice, while those on the other end of the call allegedly tried to “pacify” him. Two audios surfaced after the lawyer’s death Before committing suicide, lawyer Mrityunjay Chauhan had a phone conversation with his fiance SI’s alleged lover, the constable, and his wife. These call recordings have now surfaced. However, Dainik Bhaskar does not confirm this. Mrityunjay Chauhan called the constable on the night of December 14. A total of three calls were made between them. The longest conversation among these lasted 2 minutes and 15 seconds, while the other two calls were 8 seconds and 4 seconds long. Why the Lawyer Took the Extreme Step Mrityunjay Chauhan, fiancé of a woman SI posted at Civil Lines police station, died by suicide by hanging at his home in Adarshpuram Colony, Gwalior, on the night of December 14–15. According to Chauhan, the trigger was an incident on December 12 at a government quarter in the Morena Police Line. He alleged that he found his fiancée with a constable inside the quarter and that both assaulted him when he confronted them. Chauhan claimed that after the incident, he went to Civil Lines police station and later to City Kotwali to file a complaint, but no action was taken. Instead, he alleged that an FIR was registered against him. Feeling humiliated and unheard, he allegedly took his own life. Before his death, Chauhan sent WhatsApp messages detailing the incident to senior police officers, including the SP, ASP, and CSP, using the woman SI’s mobile phone. Audio clips emerge after death Before committing suicide, Chauhan allegedly spoke to the constable—described as the SI’s lover—and later to the constable’s wife. Three calls were made to the constable, the longest lasting 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Conversation Between Chauhan and the Constable (Key Excerpts) ‘Your husband was hiding in the kitchen’ — call with constable’s wife After speaking to the constable, Chauhan called the constable’s wife. The 4-minute-31-second conversation reflects his panic and desperation. Key excerpts from the call Timeline: December 12 to December 15 Surprise visit turns into shock On December 12, around 10 pm, Chauhan reached the government quarter in the Morena Police Line to surprise his fiancée. One gate was locked from outside and the other from the inside. He heard movement inside. When he called her, the phone rang inside but was disconnected. As he tried to break open the door, the woman SI opened the other gate and took him inside. Inside, Chauhan alleged that he smelled alcohol and found a constable in an objectionable condition in the kitchen. He claimed both the SI and the constable assaulted him. During the scuffle, Chauhan reportedly picked up a metal pestle to defend himself, injuring both. Sources claim the SI asked the constable to flee and then escaped herself by climbing down from the balcony using a shawl. Complaint rejected, FIR filed against lawyer Chauhan went to Civil Lines police station with the SI’s mobile phone to lodge a complaint but was redirected to City Kotwali. He alleged that neither station heard him out. Later, an FIR was registered against Chauhan at City Kotwali (Crime No. 00/25) under sections 115(2), 333, 331(6), 304(2), 296, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In her complaint, the woman SI accused Chauhan of forcibly entering the quarter, pressuring her for marriage, abusing her, and attacking her with a tiffin box and the butt of a pistol. She also alleged that he tried to fire an unregistered weapon and snatched her mobile phone, forcing her to flee via the balcony out of fear. Lawyer’s final application to police In his last written complaint to senior police officers, Chauhan detailed his five-year relationship with the woman SI, which began during her posting at Kailaras police station. He reiterated that he found the constable in a compromising situation and alleged an attempt by the SI to fire an unregistered pistol. He accused the police of refusing his complaint and medical examination and demanded strict action against the SI and the constable. Investigation transferred to Gwalior Morena Additional SP Surendra Pratap Singh stated that since the suicide occurred in Gwalior, the Gwalior police are investigating the case. The FIR against Chauhan remains registered at Morena City Kotwali. The case continues to raise serious questions about police accountability, handling of complaints, and the circumstances that drove a lawyer to take his own life.
