A tiger attacked a villager on Monday morning in Beldi village, located near Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria, renowned worldwide for its tiger population. Following the attack, the tiger entered a house and sat on a cot, sparking panic across the village. Many residents climbed onto rooftops to catch a glimpse as the tiger roamed along the fields. Earlier tigress spotted in nearby area, villagers remain on edge Earlier, a tigress was spotted in the Gadariya Haar area of Chilhari. The tigress was rescued on December 26 and transferred to Madhav Tiger Reserve. Continuous tiger movement in the region has left villagers both fearful and curious. Forest department team rushes to the scene The forest department team from Panpatha buffer reached the site immediately after receiving information. Authorities are monitoring the tiger closely and have urged villagers to remain alert. Tiger attacks villager while he tries to scare it away According to locals, the tiger was first spotted around 10 AM. Villagers alerted the forest department at 10:30 AM. Around 12:30 PM, the tiger moved from the fields into the village. During the incident, the tiger attacked Gopal Kol, who fell to the ground in one swoop and sustained severe leg injuries. He received initial treatment at Barhi Hospital in Katni district and was later referred to Katni for further care. The Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) team accompanied the injured villager. Tiger enters house, villagers remain anxious After attacking Gopal, the tiger entered Durga Prasad Dwivedi’s house, sitting inside and creating fear among residents. Many villagers attempted to drive the animal away using sticks, but the tiger counterattacked, injuring Gopal Kol. Panpatha Buffer Range Officer Prateek Srivastava said the forest team is present at the site, closely monitoring the situation. He emphasised that the safety of both the tigers and villagers is the department’s top priority.
