In a new turn in the ongoing investigation into the Dewas couple, Satnosh and Jayshree Vyas, the alleged self-immolation incident a second video has been released which sheds light on the sequence of events. Jayshree Vyas remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in Indore. Sister-in-law identified in video Earlier footage showed a woman throwing a bottle containing a liquid at the couple, which subsequently caught fire. In the newly surfaced video, it is now clear that the woman is Jayshree’s sister-in-law, Saraswati Vyas. After the video circulated, Saraswati spoke openly, said, “Jayshree is like my own daughter. I went there to save them, not harm them.” On Thursday, Saraswati, along with her husband Dharmendra Vyas and other relatives, visited Indore to check on the couple. She clarified that her actions had been misrepresented. What happened in the first video The first video shows Satnosh and Jayshree Vyas arguing with Tehsildar Arvind Diwakar while attempting to light a matchstick. At this moment, a woman (later identified as Saraswati) throws a bottle lying on the ground, which immediately causes a fire. What the second video reveals The 51-second footage shows a JCB machine, the Tehsildar, administrative officials, and a large crowd at the scene. During the altercation, the couple is seen holding a petrol bottle. Jayshree sprays herself with petrol, and some petrol spills on Satnosh’s sweater. When Satnosh attempts to ignite the matchstick, fire erupts, engulfing the couple. In the same frame, Saraswati Vyas steps forward, picks up the bottle from the ground (the one previously used by Jayshree), and throws it in an attempt to prevent further fire spread. The timing coincided with the couple igniting petrol, leading to the fire. Saraswati also rushed to help, but by then, the couple had suffered burns. Saraswati defends her actions Saraswati showed her burnt face, hair, and fingers, explaining that she too suffered minor burns while trying to save Jayshree. She said, I only threw an empty bottle lying on the ground. People are trying to misrepresent my actions to create controversy. Jayshree is like my daughter; I went to save her. She added that the matchstick’s ignition was the couple’s action, not hers. During the incident, her sari caught fire, which she tried to remove to protect herself while assisting the couple. Eyewitnesses and family accounts The couple’s son, Mahim Vyas, stated that the family had faced harassment from Tehsildar Arvind Diwakar and CMO for six months. On December 24, a team arrived with JCB machines and began demolition without orders. During the incident, his parents had poured petrol, and Saraswati had only intervened with an empty bottle. Another relative, Shobhit Vyas, added that the SDM had initially stopped construction only in the drainage area but allowed house construction elsewhere. Despite having a stay order from the High Court, the demolition team arrived without notice and attempted the demolition, escalating tensions. Background and Financial Details The family had taken a loan of Rs 40 lakh to construct their house. The sudden demolition attempt, combined with legal disputes and administrative actions, led to the tragic self-immolation incident. This new video and statements from Saraswati Vyas have raised questions about how the incident has been portrayed in media and public discourse. The case continues to develop as authorities investigate the full sequence of events and assign responsibility.
