sterilisation-of-2.5-lakh-dogs-in-indore:rs-25-crore-spent;-80%-claim-fails-as-dog-numbers-rise-with-over-4,500-bite-cases

The number of stray dogs in Indore is rapidly increasing. On December 19, the Indore High Court heard a public interest litigation case. In which the Municipal Corporation claimed to have sterilized more than 2.39 lakh street dogs and also presented a report. It was stated that sterilization work is ongoing every day. When a significant difference was found between the figures and the ground reality, the court raised questions. It said that when we ourselves go for a walk, stray dogs are seen everywhere. Who knows what the situation will be like in the entire city? It also said that concrete action should be taken on this problem, otherwise, a judicial inquiry will be set up regarding the sterilization campaign and the sterilizations carried out so far. Following the court’s strict remarks, Dainik Bhaskar investigated the Municipal Corporation’s report, the current status of sterilization, and the reality of dog bite cases. In which the corporation’s claims appeared contradictory. These also point towards irregularities. 25 crore rupees have been spent on sterilization. Still, whether it’s a hospital, religious area, colony, neighborhood, or any public place, there is a large number of stray dogs. In most places, these dogs become ferocious at night. They attack vehicle drivers, due to which many people have become victims. Every month, 4500 cases of dog bites are being reported. Read this report… These two agencies are performing sterilization
The Municipal Corporation has given contracts to two agencies for dog sterilization. Among them, one is Vet Society for Animal Welfare and Rural Development (Hyderabad) and the other is Radix Society (Dewas). Earlier, a dog’s sterilization cost 925 rupees. Then, in the new tender, the corporation awarded a contract for 1125 rupees per dog sterilization. Thus, even if an average of 1 thousand rupees per dog is considered, approximately 25 crore rupees have been spent on their sterilization alone. Despite this, the increasing dog population has raised questions about the municipal corporation’s actions. And this shocking reality
The shocking thing is that there has been no reduction in dog bite cases. An average of 150 dog bite cases are reported daily at the government Hukamchand Polyclinic. Thus, more than 4500 people are becoming victims of dog bites every month, and this figure is only from one government hospital. Additionally, if we talk about the district, overall, more than 60,000 people are becoming victims of dog bites every year. These cases also raise questions about the corporation’s actions. In February, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, after reviewing the progress report of the dog sterilization campaign, had said that this problem is not just limited to Indore, but affects many cities across the country. Indore should also file a review with factual and strong grounds, so that a permanent solution to this issue can be found at the national level. Officials had then informed that currently, sterilization of approximately 30,000 dogs is pending in Indore. Now, it is being said that only 15,000 dogs are left for sterilization, but the ground reality can be understood from the presence of dogs, the experiences of city residents, and the cases of dog bites. Administration and Corporation completely failed
Senior Advocate Manish Yadav said that in the hearing held on Friday, the High Court itself expressed surprise that when 2.39 lakh dogs have been sterilized, we ourselves are seeing that the number of dogs has increased significantly in Yashwant and other places. There are many places including 56 Dukan, Rajwada where the number is continuously increasing.
