A private broker tried to extort money from a truck driver near the Hanumana RTO check post in Rewa. The driver, Sumit Patel, refused to pay. When the broker forcibly climbed onto the truck, Sumit sped away. The broker had to hang onto the moving vehicle for about 5 kilometres, pleading and apologising to save his life. The incident was caught on video, which went viral. Broker demands money The incident happened on Saturday afternoon. Sumit Patel was driving towards Rewa via Hanumana. A private broker approached him near the RTO check post. The broker demanded money in the name of extortion. He spoke in a threatening manner. He repeatedly pressured the driver to pay. When Sumit refused, the broker forcibly climbed onto the truck. The entire incident in three pictures – Driver speeds away Sumit then moved the truck forward. The broker struggled to hold on. He repeatedly asked the driver to stop the vehicle. He touched the driver’s feet and apologised multiple times. The broker had to cling to the moving truck for about 5 kilometres. During this, he kept pleading for mercy. Eyewitnesses said the broker’s arrogance completely disappeared during the incident. Video surfaces A video of the incident surfaced on Sunday morning. It shows the broker hanging on to the truck and repeatedly touching the driver’s feet. He apologised and begged to be let go just once. Truck drivers say brokers are active at many check posts in the district, including Hanumana. They extort money in the name of document deficiencies or inspections. Drivers are harassed or stopped unnecessarily if they refuse to pay. Driver stands up Sumit Patel said he protested because of the broker’s continuous pressure and misbehaviour. He added that he has been asked for money before. Truck drivers allege that brokers cannot operate without support from some departmental officials.
