In Ujjain, a video showing a saint reciting the Hanuman Chalisa at the Maulana Mauj Dargah complex on the banks of the Shipra River has sparked controversy. The video shows a large number of disciples attending the recitation. The Dargah Committee objected, saying permission was only granted for Qawwali and offering a chadar. They added that the recitation hurt religious sentiments. Permission taken only for Chadar Qawwali Irfan Ahmed, vice-president of the Dargah Committee, said that three days ago, on Hanuman Ashtami, a saint named Baba Bam-Bam Bhole had requested permission to offer a chadar. He also mentioned performing Qawwali. The committee granted permission, considering that people from all communities visit the dargah. Disciples confirm recitation Kuldeep, a disciple of Baba Bam-Bam Bhole, told reporters over the phone that they only sought permission to offer a chadar. There was no discussion about reciting the Hanuman Chalisa. According to him, after offering the chadar, the saint started reciting the Chalisa himself. Everyone present joined in. He admitted that the Dargah Committee was not informed beforehand. No official complaint filed The Maulana Mauj Dargah Committee expressed that such an activity hurt religious sentiments. For now, the committee has refused to lodge any written complaint but has objected publicly to the unapproved recitation.
