A tragic incident occurred late Friday night in Indra Nagar, under the Hazira police station area in Gwalior. Ninety-year-old Beni Bai, wife of Shyam Singh, was asleep in her room when a fire suddenly broke out, trapping her in the flames. Flames discovered around 11 pm Around 11 pm, the fire was noticed, and her son immediately alerted other family members. Neighbours rushed to the scene and began trying to break down the door. Family members attempted to extinguish the flames while also informing the police. By the time the door was forced open and the fire brought under control, Beni Bai had tragically perished. Heater suspected as cause At the time of the accident, a heater was operating near the elderly woman’s bed to keep her warm. Police reported that both the heater’s wire and plug were badly burnt. In a preliminary investigation, authorities suspect that the fire was caused by the heater, as Beni Bai’s quilt was also scorched. Residents of the house are being questioned to understand exactly how the accident occurred. Hesitation to handle severely burned body When police arrived, they requested assistance from bystanders to lift the body. However, due to the severe burns, no one stepped forward. Ultimately, officers on night patrol, other police personnel, and the deceased’s son together transported the body for a post-mortem examination. Police investigating the incident Sub-Inspector Harendra Singh Bhadauria stated, A 90-year-old woman died after being caught in the fire. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
