Indore Youth Congress launched a massive protest on Monday, alleging a spike in crime, widening drug abuse and what they termed the unplanned and disorderly execution of the Indore Metro project. The protest, led by Youth Congress city president Amit Patel, sought to highlight what the organisation called a growing civic and administrative crisis in the city. Police used water cannons to disperse Congress workers Youth congress workers began gathering around Harsiddhi Temple well before noon. With banners and posters in hand, workers marched towards the Collectorate, raising slogans over the city’s deteriorating law-and-order situation. Police, anticipating the march, sealed the approach roads to the Collectorate with barricades and deployed a large force. Tensions escalated as protesters attempted to break through the barricades. When the situation turned volatile, police used water cannons to push back the crowd, leaving several workers injured as they slipped and fell during the chaos. Delegation submits memorandum to SDM Once the situation stabilised, a delegation led by Amit Patel, along with district and city Congress president Chintu Chouksey and leader Vipin Wankhede, met the SDM and submitted a memorandum. The Youth Congress demanded strict action to curb rising crime, dismantle drug networks and fix alleged mismanagement in the metro project. Will intensify movement: Patel Youth Congress Indore president Amit Patel said: Indore is grappling with rising crime, unchecked drug networks and a metro project suffering from poor planning. The Youth Congress cannot remain silent while public safety and civic order deteriorate. Today’s protest reflects the voice of the people. If the administration fails to act, our movement will only intensify. The Youth Congress has warned that if the administration fails to address these issues, it will intensify its agitation in the coming weeks.
