A dog, infected with rabies, created panic in Mordar and Chikhli villages of Barwani district’s Sendhwa block on Sunday afternoon, injuring 12 people. The victims included women, children, and elderly residents. According to health officials, all injured persons received immediate medical treatment at the civil hospital, with several referred to higher centres due to severe injuries. Dog first attacked villagers in Mordar The incident began when the dog attacked 17-year-old Nilesh Arya on the main road in Mordar village. After this, it turned aggressive and started biting people passing through the area. Six villagers, including women and children, suffered injuries. An elderly woman’s lip was torn, while Lohari Bai sustained a nasal bone fracture. The sudden attacks caused fear and confusion across the village. Visuals related to the incident.. Dog moves to Chikhli; villagers beat it to death Villager Balkishan Arya said the dog ran toward the fields after the attacks in Mordar and reached nearby Chikhli village. There, it bit another resident and continued to behave aggressively. Concerned for their safety, villagers surrounded the dog and killed it using sticks and clubs to prevent further attacks. Several referred for advanced treatment Duty doctor Sanjay Dhakad confirmed that all victims were administered anti-rabies vaccine, tetanus injections, and required medication. Four seriously injured individuals were referred to the district hospital for further treatment, while three continued to receive care at the civil hospital. Two severely injured women, Jahadiya Bai Arya and Lohari Bai, were taken to Indore by their families, and Nilesh Arya was admitted to a private hospital in Barwani. The remaining victims were discharged after receiving rabies immunoglobulin, TT injections, and antibiotics. List of injured residents The 12 people injured in the attack include: Nilesh Arya (17), Sekadia Chauhan (90), Dudi Bai Rawat (55), Saumya Bai Arya (27), Jahadiya Bai Arya (55), Lohari Bai (60), Malsingh Kanoje (55) of Chikhli, Rajiram (10), Pooja (8), Radha Jirban (6) of Chikhli, Divlal (7) of Chikhli, and Ashwini (9) of Chikhli. Following treatment at the civil hospital, several victims were shifted to the district hospital for further care as both villages remain tense after the incident.
