Vandana Thakur, a female bodybuilder from India, won a gold medal at the 16th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Indonesia. She competed in the 55+ age category. Vandana was the only athlete representing India. Top bodybuilders from around the world participated in the championship. This historic win makes her the first Indian woman to win gold in women’s bodybuilding at this level. The event took place on 17 November. Historic achievement Vandana has created history by bringing home gold for India. Earlier, she had won silver at the Asian Championship in 2024 and gold in the National competition. She is also the brand ambassador of the Indore Swachhta Abhiyan (Cleanliness Campaign). Hard work and discipline Vandana follows a strict daily routine. She wakes up early for training. She spends hours practising, even while battling injuries. Her determination and discipline were key to her success. Emotional moment Vandana spoke about her win on the phone. She said, “When I went on stage, my only goal was to win for the tricolour. I wanted to hoist India’s flag on the stage. I was ready to do whatever it took to make it happen.” Gratitude to coaches and mentors Vandana thanked her coach Gitanjali Vishwakarma for guidance. She also expressed gratitude to Atul Malikram Sir, Neha Gaur, and Swami Ramesh Sir. She said, “I am a world champion today because of their support.” Past achievements Vandana has a strong track record in bodybuilding. She won silver at the 2024 Asian Championship.
