A high-speed Fortuner SUV crashed into a sand-laden tractor-trailer on the Gwalior-Jhansi highway on Sunday morning, killing all five occupants instantly. The car went under the trailer, leaving no chance of survival. The victims were returning from a programme in Jhansi and were residents of Gwalior. Accident details The crash occurred at around 6:35 AM, about 20 km from Gwalior city, near Malwa College. The SUV, bearing registration MP07 CG 9006, was carrying five people. As the car approached a bend, a sand-laden tractor-trailer suddenly appeared in front. The SUV driver lost control due to high speed and collided with the trailer from behind. The car became wedged under the trailer, causing catastrophic damage. Rescue operation The victims were trapped inside the mangled car. Police and local residents used a cutter machine to cut open the vehicle and retrieve the bodies. One of the deceased has been identified as Shrikrishna Rajawat, a resident of Adityapuram in Gwalior. Vehicle damage The SUV was badly damaged. The airbags had deployed and torn, indicating that the car was likely travelling at around 120 km/h at the time of the crash. Evidence found Eyewitnesses said that empty alcohol bottles and disposable glasses were found inside the car, suggesting that the occupants might have been drinking.
