One person climbed onto a pole, while a young woman climbed onto the roof sheet of the house. All of them started threatening self-immolation and suicide. Officers and policemen immediately removed the kerosene, poured water on the family members, and took them away. After this, the encroachment removal operation began. A long-standing dispute continues over the occupation of land belonging to the Annapurna Temple Trust. On Friday, acting on the Collector’s instructions, a joint team of police, municipal corporation, and administration arrived at the spot to remove the encroachment. Amidst the tense atmosphere, the police have taken the family present there into custody. According to the police, 4 families had occupied this place. Tension flared at the site, and police detained the family involved. According to officials, four families had encroached upon the trust’s land. The encroachers had been involved in earlier disputes as well, and a related case was pending with the police. Collector Shivam Verma directed the SDM and tehsildar to investigate the ownership of the land. The inquiry confirmed that the disputed land belonged to the temple administration. Based on the findings, orders to clear the encroachment were issued on Thursday. On Friday morning, the team reached the site to execute the removal. Kerosene threat, suicide attempts foiled As the operation began, residents strongly opposed the action. A woman and two young men poured kerosene over themselves and threatened self-immolation. Police personnel immediately intervened, poured water on them, and took them into custody. Around the same time, a young woman climbed onto the roof and threatened to jump. A woman constable risked her own safety to pull her down. The woman suffered injuries during the rescue. Man climbs pole, threatens to grab live wire In another alarming moment, a man climbed the boundary wall of the temple premises and then scaled an electric pole, repeatedly warning officials that he would grab the live wires if the encroachment drive was not halted. However, the administration had already cut off the power supply in advance as a safety precaution. After considerable effort, police managed to bring the man down safely. During the rescue operation, the municipal corporation team continued clearing the encroachment.
