In Ujjain, a lawyer allegedly defrauded over Rs 5 lakh using fake court fee receipts at Badnagar Court. An FIR has been registered, and police have launched an investigation. Badnagar Police Station in-charge Ashok Kumar Patidar said that on November 10, Yogesh Thakur, reader at the District and Sessions Court, filed a complaint stating that lawyer Ujjwal Joshi of Vyas Colony created fake civil case fee receipts and presented them in court. Verification revealed that all receipts submitted by lawyer Ujjwal Joshi were fake. He allegedly deposited smaller amounts and added zeros to inflate them, committing a total fraud of Rs 5,81,085 so far. Investigators also found that Joshi’s law license (sanad) is registered in someone else’s name. Scam perpetrated right under the nose of court In civil cases like property disputes, tenant disputes, and check bounce cases, court fees must be paid online via the High Court’s authorized website using party and court details. Between 2022 and 2025, accused Ujjwal Joshi accused of committing fraud in nearly all cases. For example, if a Rs 1 lakh fee was required, he would deposit only Rs 10,000 and then manipulate the receipt by adding a zero, making it appear as Rs 1 lakh. OTP used to come on accused’s phone According to the procedure, the email ID and mobile number on all fake receipts belonged to Ujjwal Joshi. In such a situation, the One Time Password (OTP) also used to come on his phone, due to which this fraud was not caught for a long time. Admitted the crime in court On November 15, 2025, during the hearing of a case, the Badnagar Court found that the receipt for Rs 2.80 lakh fee was fake. When lawyer Ujjwal Joshi was questioned, he admitted his mistake before the court and deposited the original fee of Rs 2 lakh 80 thousand. Subsequently, the court also instructed to examine the remaining files of Joshi’s cases. During the investigation, the earlier court fee receipts were also found to be fake. Following this, Court Reader Yogesh Thakur filed a case against Ujjwal Joshi on Wednesday.
