The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list began across Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, marking the start of a month-long, door-to-door verification campaign. However, discrepancies surfaced on the very first day — while Bhopal and Indore showed active participation from senior officials, Ujjain faced setbacks as the required verification forms were not printed or distributed in time. In several districts, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have begun reaching out to households to verify voter details, though execution varied widely across regions. Bhopal Collector leads by example, visits voters’ homes In Bhopal, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh personally visited booths numbered 33 to 38 in the Huzur constituency, interacting with voters and monitoring the work of BLOs.
He said, “All 2,029 BLOs and 250 supervisors are actively working on ground. SDMs and Tehsildars are overseeing the process in their respective zones.” Each BLO is mandated to visit every home up to three times, providing voters with a ‘verification sheet’ (Ganana Patrak) in duplicate — one copy for the voter and one for official records. Bhopal currently has 21 lakh registered voters, and form distribution will continue for the next four to five days before collection begins. Indore Collector helps 95-year-old voter fill form In Indore, Collector Shivam Verma launched the verification campaign by visiting 95-year-old Vasudev Verma at his home in Imli Bazaar.
He personally assisted the elderly voter in filling out the SIR form and discussed his long voting history. Vasudev shared that he had voted in every election so far and was eager to participate in this new verification process. The Indore campaign will continue for a month, aimed at identifying duplicate, fake, or migrated voters. BLOs will conduct home visits to verify every entry in the list. Ujjain falls behind — Forms not printed on time The SIR survey was scheduled to start on November 4 in Ujjain, but operations could not begin as the enumeration forms were not printed or delivered.
Officials, including SDMs and Tehsildars, were seen waiting for the forms throughout the day. According to Deputy District Election Officer Sandeep Singh, the forms have now arrived, and the campaign is expected to begin from Wednesday. BLO training sessions are still underway in parts of the district, further delaying the rollout. Gwalior and Jabalpur begin distribution In Gwalior, around 20% of enumeration forms have already been distributed across six assembly constituencies (wards 14 to 19).
Similarly, Jabalpur has begun distributing forms after BLOs completed their training. Officials are also taking voter photographs to cross-verify details with existing records. First such intensive survey since 2003 This is the first door-to-door voter verification drive since 2003. Residents whose names were not listed in 2003 but appear in the current rolls will need to specify which family member’s name appeared earlier. BLOs will verify this information before final inclusion. No official documents will be collected during the survey — all verification will rely solely on details filled in the enumerat
