Advocate Abhijita Rathore, who was declared brain dead in Indore following a lung infection, has given the gift of life to multiple patients. Her kidneys and liver were successfully transplanted into three seriously ill patients in the city. Additionally, her skin will help save more than five burn victims. At the hospital, her skin and corneas were displayed in special transparent boxes and bottles, with doctors explaining their significance and the transplant process. The event was deeply emotional, and Abhijita’s family were visibly moved. The 38-year-old had been admitted to hospital on October 25 with a lung infection. During her treatment, she suffered a blood clot in the brain, leading doctors to declare her brain dead on Saturday. The cornea needs to be removed within eight hours of death. It is kept in two types of chemicals. One is MK media, in which the cornea remains safe for 72 hours. The second chemical is cornea sol, which is expensive. The cornea can be kept safe in it for 15 days. Abhijita’s cornea has been kept in this chemical. Abhijita’s husband Praveen said – What could be more peaceful than knowing that even after Abhijita’s departure from this world, her eyes will see the world by helping others.
