A sanitation supervisor from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation was assaulted by two local residents during an inspection in the Idgah Hills area. The men not only hit him with slippers and punches but also threatened to kill him. The entire dispute was over cleanliness in the locality. A video of the incident has gone viral. After the attack, sanitation workers surrounded the police station, demanding action against the accused. Incident during inspection Sanjay Tank, the sanitation supervisor of Ward 10 in Idgah Hills, said he was inspecting the area on Saturday morning when two men, identified as Manish and his companion, approached him. They asked, “Who is the supervisor here?” When he replied that he was, they complained about poor cleanliness. Sanjay told them that cleaning was being carried out everywhere and asked them to point out the specific location that had been missed. The accused then took him some distance, claiming they would show him the garbage. Assault and misbehaviour According to Sanjay, the men began misbehaving during the discussion. The argument soon turned violent, and one of them slapped him. As the scuffle continued, both men started hitting him. The supervisor said such incidents make it difficult for officials to perform their duties. Following the attack, all sanitation workers from the area reached the police station with Sanjay to lodge a complaint. Attack caught on camera A 3.5-minute CCTV video of the assault shows two young men — one in a red T-shirt and the other in yellow — arguing with the supervisor. After exchanging words, the man in red punches Sanjay. The man in yellow then joins in, and both begin beating him. The video also shows the men kicking the supervisor and hitting him with slippers. A few bystanders are seen trying to stop the assault. FIR registered against accused Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anil Bajpai confirmed that an FIR has been filed against Manish and another person. The charges include assault, obstruction of government duty, and offences under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police have said that notices will soon be issued to both accused.
