In a shocking twist to an alleged honeytrap case, a local BJP leader from Rewa, Diwakar Dwivedi, has claimed that he was the victim — not the accused. Dwivedi, a 45-year-old businessman and former Janpad member, alleged that a woman and her associates tried to “sexually assault and blackmail” him in an elaborate political conspiracy to tarnish his image. The BJP leader’s claim came two days after multiple videos surfaced on social media, showing him in compromising situations and apparently admitting to misconduct. However, Dwivedi insists the videos were filmed under duress after he was kidnapped at gunpoint. Police have registered a case against eight individuals, including the woman involved, on charges of kidnapping, blackmail, extortion, and criminal conspiracy. Two viral videos spark political storm The controversy began when two videos linked to Dwivedi surfaced online earlier this week. The clips spread rapidly on social media, leading to outrage and speculation about his conduct. In the first video, Dwivedi is seen sitting in a car along with a young woman and three men. The man filming from the backseat asks, “You did wrong with this girl, didn’t you?” The BJP leader folds his hands and replies, “Yes, what you are saying is correct… I made a mistake.” The woman sitting beside him adds, “He did very wrong to me.” Dwivedi lowers his head and nods again. The second video shows the leader sitting outdoors in a deserted hilly area with another man. A voice from behind the camera is heard saying, “You took one crore rupees from me, didn’t you?” The man responds, “Yes, I took it. I’ll return the money or give you the land.” Dwivedi, seated nearby, affirms, “Yes, I know he took the money. I’ll testify to that.” After the videos went viral, Dwivedi came forward to claim that both recordings were made under coercion as part of an elaborate blackmail scheme. “That woman tried to rape me” — Dwivedi’s version of events In an exclusive conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Dwivedi narrated his version of the incident in graphic detail. That woman tried to rape me. She first told her associates to remove my clothes. Then, she suddenly threw off her own clothes and started misbehaving with me. Everything happened so quickly that I couldn’t even understand what was going on. According to Dwivedi, the entire sequence began on October 28 when a man named Prateek Singh, a resident of Mau, called him around 9:30 a.m. and claimed to have land available for sale in Ganeegawan village. Singh allegedly told him that if he was interested, he should visit the site immediately to finalize the deal. A few minutes later, Singh and another associate, Sandeep Mishra, arrived at Dwivedi’s house in a Bolero SUV. They persuaded him to join them to inspect the land. Dwivedi agreed and accompanied them. Lured into the forest and attacked According to Dwivedi’s account, when they reached near Kullu Mor, about 700 meters away, they saw four men waiting on two motorcycles and a scooter. One of them was identified as Malik alias Vikas Singh, a local from the same area. Dwivedi alleges that the group then diverted the vehicle from the main road and drove around two to three kilometers into a deserted forest area near a warehouse on the Purva Gosala road. “They asked me to sit near the bushes,” he recalled. “One of them, who had a dark complexion, was speaking on the phone, saying, ‘We’ve reached; come quickly.’ Soon, two more people arrived on another bike — one of them was a girl.” He claims the situation took a terrifying turn when one man, armed with a pistol, pointed it toward him and ordered, “Get intimate with her.” When Dwivedi refused, the woman allegedly told the men, “First make him take off his clothes.” “They started abusing me and told me to undress. When I refused, one punched me on the nose and another fired a shot in the air. Out of fear, I took off my T-shirt and trousers. Then the woman took off her jeans and top and started behaving indecently. Meanwhile, her companions began recording videos from different phones,” said Dwivedi. He added that one of the men kept the pistol pointed at him throughout the ordeal. Demand for ₹1 crore ransom Dwivedi claimed that after the videos were recorded, the group threatened him with dire consequences. They said they would not let me go until I paid Rs 1 crore. They said they would release the video publicly if I didn’t pay. I begged them to let me go, promising that I would arrange the money later. According to him, Prateek Singh and Sandeep Mishra eventually dropped him off at his factory with a warning to meet them later in Beeda village with the money. Dwivedi immediately contacted the police and filed a complaint. BJP leader blames Congress MLA for the plot Dwivedi has directly accused Congress MLA Abhay Mishra of being behind the entire honeytrap and blackmail operation. “I cannot believe politics can fall to such a low level. This was not just a petty act of extortion — it was a political conspiracy to destroy my image and career,” he said. He maintained that the entire plot was designed to tarnish his reputation within both the BJP and the Kumawat community, of which he is an influential member. Accused’s family counters allegations Meanwhile, Prateek Singh’s wife, Bharti Singh, has rejected Dwivedi’s version and leveled serious counter-allegations. “The BJP leader forcibly took over nine acres of land that belonged to my husband. He kept pressuring and manipulating him for more property — especially 15 acres registered under my mother’s name. When we refused, he falsely implicated my husband,” she claimed. Bharti alleged that Dwivedi called her husband to his house under the pretext of settling a land deal worth Rs 1 crore, but later fabricated the kidnapping story to protect himself. Police confirm honeytrap and extortion angle Semaria police have confirmed that the case involves elements of both honeytrapping and extortion. Station House Officer Vikas Kapis said that four accused — Prateek Singh, Sandeep Mishra, Aashi (alias Asha) Gautam, and her boyfriend Ashi — have been arrested. The remaining accused — Malik alias Vikas Singh, Piyush Singh, Ramkripal Pandey, and Shikhar Singh — are absconding. Police sources said the group had been planning the trap for at least 15 days. Asha Gautam, 23, was allegedly paid Rs 20,000 to befriend and entrap the BJP leader. Investigators also revealed that Prateek Singh had a prior criminal record, including charges of drug trafficking, assault, and rape. “The mastermind was Prateek Singh, who was once close to Dwivedi through a land transaction worth ₹80 lakh. He used this relationship to plan the extortion. The phones used to record the videos are yet to be recovered,” an officer said. Police: “New version of honeytrap” Officials investigating the case have described it as a disturbing evolution of the honeytrap model. Traditionally, such cases involve a woman luring a man into a consensual encounter and later blackmailing him. In this case, however, the accused allegedly staged a sexual assault using threats and coercion to record compromising footage. “The sequence — abduction, coercion, filming, and demand for ransom — represents a new and alarming pattern,” a senior officer said. Political reactions and war of words The case has taken a political turn with both the BJP and Congress trading accusations. Congress spokesperson Vinod Sharma dismissed Dwivedi’s charges against MLA Abhay Mishra as “completely baseless.” “When BJP leaders themselves are unsafe, how will they protect the public? Anyone can be kidnapped at gunpoint — is this what law and order looks like?” Sharma asked. He further questioned why the police were withholding details about the accused and their network if this was indeed a honeytrap gang. “If the BJP leader did engage in physical relations, why has no action been taken against him? Why is only one side being protected?” he said. A case that exposes political and moral fault lines The sensational case has not only shocked Rewa but also ignited a debate about the growing misuse of honeytrap tactics in politics and business. As of now, Dwivedi stands firm on his claim that he was the victim of a political honeytrap, insisting that the truth will emerge once the full video footage is recovered. “I have done nothing wrong,” he said. “I was attacked, humiliated, and blackmailed. This is a conspiracy to destroy my image — but I will fight it legally.” Post navigation Eyewitnesses blame railway’s negligence for Pithampur crane accident:Victim’s son says, ‘Father remained trapped under vehicle for 4 hours’ PEB’s Assistant Engineer recruitment sparks controversy:Bhopal Corporation sends list of 17 posts without MIC’s approval, officials decide to issue a clarification letter
