After KYC, govt mandates KYV to prevent FASTag frauds:What is Know Your Vehicle and how it will impact everyday users; here is how to apply

After introducing KYC (Know Your Customer), the government has now made KYV (Know Your Vehicle) mandatory to stop the misuse of FASTags. As per the circular issued by NPCI, all FASTags must meet KYC requirements. Each FASTag should be linked to the vehicle’s unique Registration Number (VRN) and chassis number. FASTag issuers must also follow the one-vehicle-one-tag rule and replace any tags that are over five years old. Here we explain what is KYV and how to apply for it… What is KYV (Know Your Vehicle) KYV is your vehicle’s ID. It’s like KYC, but for cars. It’s a one-time in every three years digital verification linking your FASTag to real vehicle deets: registration number, chassis number, and pics proving the tag’s legit. KYV was rolled out as a mandatory process, beginning Oct 31, 2024. It requires all FASTag users to submit images of their vehicle and registration certificate to verify that the tag is linked to the correct vehicle. As a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) initiative, KYV was notified by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to prevent fraud. It requires, verification must be repeated every three years so that the database stays always updated.
