From today, 1 August 2026, the price of commercial LPG cylinders has been reduced by up to ₹200 on average. Meanwhile, the rules for Tatkal train ticket bookings and CKYC have also changed. Additionally, the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, scheduled from 3 to 5 August, will decide on the new interest rates, which could impact your EMIs. Five major changes coming into effect in August 1. Commercial LPG cylinder cheaper by an average of ₹180 Change: Oil marketing companies have reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders by an average of ₹180. In Delhi, the price has come down to ₹2,930 from ₹3,113.50. Impact: Lower commercial LPG prices will reduce operating costs for restaurants. As a result, the prices of tea, snacks and meals could come down, while wedding catering services may also become cheaper. Price of commercial gas cylinders in major cities of the country No change in the price of 14 kg domestic cylinder 2. Railways: New token system for Tatkal tickets Change: From 1 August, Indian Railways has introduced a token-based system at PRS reservation counters to reduce crowding. Passengers must collect a token before purchasing a Tatkal ticket at the counter. Impact: The new system is expected to reduce waiting time. Under the revised process, passengers can collect a token and return at their allotted time to complete the booking smoothly. 3. RBI monetary policy: Impact on loan EMIs and FD rates Change: The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will meet from 3 to 5 August, with the policy decision to be announced on 5 August. Impact: While a change in interest rates is considered unlikely, any revision could affect loan EMIs, fixed deposit (FD) returns, and borrowing costs in the coming weeks. 4. CKYC 2.0: No need to submit documents repeatedly Change: The upgraded CKYC 2.0 system is being rolled out. If you open a bank account, buy insurance, or invest in mutual funds or the stock market, institutions will be able to access your KYC details from a single government database with your consent. The upgrade also fixes shortcomings in the previous system and improves data accuracy and security. Impact: The new system will strengthen data security, curb fraud, and eliminate the need to repeatedly submit identity and address proof to different financial institutions. 5. Credit cards and banking: Greater transparency in billing Change: The RBI has updated credit card rules to improve billing transparency. If a customer does not pay the full credit card bill, interest on the outstanding amount will not be calculated on convenience fees, penalties, or taxes. Impact: The change will reduce interest costs for customers who carry forward outstanding balances. It will also improve billing transparency by curbing hidden charges and arbitrary penalties.
