A major accident was narrowly avoided at Anuppur railway station early Monday morning when coal from an overloaded freight train came in contact with a high-tension electric line. The collision triggered loud explosions and heavy sparking, causing the overhead power wires to snap and fall onto the tracks. Fortunately, the goods train was running on the middle loop track between platforms, preventing a bigger disaster. Railway staff acted swiftly, moving the freight train to the additional yard near Platform Number 4. Several trains delayed and diverted The incident occurred around 5 AM, disrupting both passenger and freight traffic on the route. Several trains were affected — some halted at Jaitahari, Chhulha, and Mouhari railway stations, while others were diverted through alternate tracks. At the time of the accident, the Rewa–Chirmiri passenger train was stationed at Platform Number 1. Passengers reported seeing sparks for several minutes after the contact, describing the scene as alarming. Cause under investigation According to railway officials, the freight train was carrying coal from Ambikapur to Katni. The department has launched an inquiry to determine how the overloaded train managed to pass through the yard undetected. Barauni–Gondia Express halted for an hour Following the incident, the Barauni–Gondia Express was halted at Jaitahari station and was able to depart about an hour later. Power restoration and track repair work were completed soon after, and rail traffic has now been normalized.
