A BJP leader and his associates allegedly murdered a farmer over a long-standing land dispute in Ganeshpura village under Fatehgarh police station area on Sunday afternoon Guna district.
The victim, Ram Swaroop Nagar (40), was attacked by a group of 15 men wielding sharp weapons. When his family members — including women and girls — tried to intervene, they too were beaten up and assaulted. Ram Swaroop was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries around 8 PM before being referred to Bhopal. His wife Vinod Bai Nagar (38), daughter Tanisha Nagar (17), brother Rajendra Nagar (50) and niece Krishna Nagar (17) were all injured in the attack. Main accused a BJP leader and booth president Police identified Mahendra Nagar, a local BJP leader and booth president, as the main accused. He had previously served as the sarpanch of Kudka Panchayat and is known to be a supporter of former minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia. Mahendra had joined the BJP along with Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and reportedly enjoys close ties with several senior party leaders. Police said that Mahendra, along with other accused, is currently absconding. According to locals, Mahendra has a reputation as a “strongman” who often buys land at throwaway prices. A villager, requesting anonymity, said, “Mahendra Nagar has the image of a domineering leader. He forces people to sell their land cheaply.”
Murder linked to 6-bigha land dispute The dispute reportedly began over six bighas of land belonging to Ram Swaroop’s uncle, Pappu Nagar, who lives in Rajasthan’s Baran district. Family members alleged that Mahendra had executed a mortgage deed for Rs 70,000, but paid only Rs 22,000. When Ram Swaroop offered to repay double the amount to cancel the agreement, the accused refused. Though both parties had reached a settlement at the Nahargarh police station recently, tensions reignited when the accused demanded control of the land again. Daughter’s heart-wrenching statement Ram Swaroop’s teenage daughter Tanisha recounted the horrific incident to police: They ran over my father with a Thar. They also tore our clothes. Her cousin Krishna added, We were walking to the field when they surrounded my uncle and started beating him. When I and my sister tried to save him, they tore our clothes and hit us. They ran a Thar and a tractor over him.
FIR filed against 14 accused Based on the family’s complaint, police have registered an FIR against Mahendra Nagar, Jitendra Nagar, Kanhaiyalal, Lokesh, Naveen, and nine others, along with one unidentified person. Jitendra Nagar has been specifically accused of driving the Thar SUV over Ram Swaroop. Viral video of accused cutting cake with axe A video of Jitendra Nagar has surfaced online, showing him cutting a cake labeled “Sidhu Moosewala” with an axe on the bonnet of a Thar SUV — the same vehicle allegedly used in the crime. The video has sparked widespread outrage on social media. Police statement SDOP Vivek Asthana confirmed the details, saying, Mahendra Nagar from Rajasthan, along with around 15 others, attacked Ram Swaroop in Ganeshpura village. The victim was rushed to the district hospital, where he died during treatment. Police teams are searching for the accused. Ram Swaroop, a small farmer, owned 22 bighas of land in total and was the sole breadwinner for his family of six, including three daughters and one son. The youngest is a minor. The brutal murder has sent shockwaves through the region, with villagers demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and strong legal action against the BJP leader and his associates.
