In Vidisha, BJP leader and lawyer Vimalprakash Taran was attacked on the road while riding his scooter. The accused grabbed his collar and slapped him multiple times. The victim alleges a political conspiracy behind the assault. Assault on station road The incident took place on Saturday afternoon on Station Road, near City Center. Taran was travelling on his scooter when a man approached him, grabbed his collar, and slapped him repeatedly. The victim tried to resist but could not stop the attack. The accused, Sanjeev Namdev alias Gandhi, was arrested by police on Sunday morning. He was paraded publicly in Vidisha after the arrest. Political reactions Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo condemned the attack. Shivraj Singh met the victim in Vidisha on Sunday and assured security. Opposition parties called the incident an example of “jungle raj,” saying that if ruling party leaders are unsafe, common citizens are at greater risk. Alleged conspiracy involving MLA Taran claimed that the attack was orchestrated by an MLA and former chairman of the Central Cooperative Bank. He said he had a recent argument with Shyam Sundar Sharma, who had threatened him. On Saturday, the attacker allegedly claimed he was acting on the MLA’s orders. Taran demanded a thorough police investigation into the conspiracy behind the assault. Bar association protest In response to the attack, the Vidisha Bar Association called a bandh on Monday. Lawyers refused to attend courts in protest of the assault on their colleague. Victim’s family seeks security Taran’s wife approached Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for protection. She expressed fear for her husband’s safety. Taran himself warned that he might commit suicide if no action was taken. Shivraj Singh assured security and instructed the police to investigate and punish the culprits. Video evidence The viral video shows Taran sitting on his Activa scooter when the accused comes and slaps him three to four times. The attack was sudden, leaving Taran unable to defend himself. Shivraj Singh demands strict action Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the accused must be given harsh punishment. The police have been instructed to investigate thoroughly and ensure justice.
