Meanwhile, MP Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya suggested that players should inform local authorities or security personnel whenever they go out. His comments have sparked widespread outrage. Minister advises players to inform locals Kailash Vijayvargiya said that whenever players go out, they should at least inform one local person or the administration. He added that this is a lesson both for the players and for local authorities. He cited an example from England, saying that even football players face situations where fans crowd them, tear their clothes, or try to take autographs. “Players should realise their popularity and be careful,” he said. Congress condemns statement Former Union Minister and Congress leader Arun Yadav called Vijayvargiya’s remarks “disgusting.” He said he did not expect such a statement from a senior BJP leader. Arun Yadav criticised the government and said: “You are responsible for law and order. You should suspend officers who fail in their duties. Instead, you give such statements. The whole country is ashamed.” Example of player safety concerns Vijayvargiya recalled seeing an England football player’s clothes torn when fans crowded around for autographs. He said the hotel he stayed in also faced a similar situation with fans. He emphasised that high-profile players should always remain cautious while travelling or moving in public areas. Outcry over police and administration failures The incident has put the Indore police and administration in a bad light internationally. The Minister’s suggestion that players themselves should inform locals drew further criticism for implying that the responsibility for safety lies partly with the victims. Congress and civil society groups are demanding stricter accountability and action against the officers who failed to maintain law and order.
