An ambulance fell off a bridge on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Mandsaur district late Friday night. The accident resulted in the death of two people, while the driver sustained serious injuries. The ambulance (AP-39-UZ 5726) was transporting patients near Sedra Mata village in the Sitamau Tehsil. The incident occurred around midnight on Friday, but due to the ambulance falling beneath the bridge, nobody noticed it during the night. Driver trapped overnight On Saturday morning, villagers heading to their fields spotted the ambulance and immediately informed the police. With the help of villagers, the injured driver was rescued after hours of effort. He had remained trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle throughout the night. The ambulance’s front portion was badly mangled, making the rescue challenging. Authorities used a tractor to pull the vehicle out and free the driver. Casualties and injured The deceased have been identified as Abir and Shibu. The injured driver is Azeenur Haque (28), son of Azeenur, resident of Kunj Vihar, Siliguri, West Bengal. All three were ambulance staff, returning from transporting a patient from Siliguri to Ahmedabad. The accident occurred while the ambulance was traveling from Javra towards Sitamau, between Sedra Mata and Bhuvangarh. The police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem, and the injured driver is currently undergoing treatment.
