MP Police tightens reins on drug trafficking:4k bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup valued at Rs 18.40 lakh seized; 7 nabbed by cops

The Madhya Pradesh police, acting under the directives of the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana, has intensified their state-wide campaign against drug trafficking. In a major operation, the police in Rewa and Sidhi districts of the state seized 4,054 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth Rs 18.40 lakh, a statement issued on Wednesday by the MP Police Headquarters (PHQ) read. Seven accused, including a woman, were arrested during the raids, the officials said. State-wide campaign launched against narcotics MP’s Chief Minister (CM) Mohan Yadav had recently instructed the police officials during the Collector–SP Conference to take stringent measures against the sale and transport of illegal drugs and to protect youth from substance abuse. Following his directive, DGP Makwana launched a special anti-narcotics drive that has yielded significant success across the state through a series of coordinated raids. Rewa police ends up seizing 2,300 bottles In Rewa, the police arrested two traffickers, identified as Rahul Singh and Utkarsh Dwivedi, both native residents of Sidhi, and recovered 2,314 bottles of Onrex cough syrup valued at Rs 4.51 lakh. Two vehicles, a Honda WR-V and a Wagon R, worth Rs 12 lakh combined, were also seized during the operation. Additionally, the city’s Kotwali police recovered 60 bottles worth Rs 11,700 and arrested one more person involved in the trafficking. Altogether, 2,374 bottles and valuables worth Rs 12.68 lakh were confiscated in Rewa. Sidhi police conducts 3 raids, 4 fall into police dragnet Meanwhile, the Sidhi Police conducted three consecutive raids. In Semariya, the cops intercepted a Scorpio vehicle ferrying 1,180 bottles of Onrex syrup valued at Rs 2.37 lakh and arrested Suraj Tiwari, a resident of Shahdol. In another raid, a woman trafficker, named Sunita Gautam of Rakela village, was arrested in Khaddi outpost with 300 bottles of Eskuuf syrup worth Rs 63,360. The Jamodi Police also nabbed two men, Sahil Khan and Harshit Soni, with 200 bottles of Onrex syrup and a moped worth Rs 70,000. DGP issues stern warning against drug abuse DGP Makwana said after achieving the feat that continuous consumption of codeine-based cough syrup leads to addiction, mental imbalance, and severe damage to the heart and respiratory system. He underscored that protecting youth from narcotic abuse is a shared responsibility of society and law enforcement. The state police chief also directed the officials of all the districts to maintain surveillance in high-risk areas and take legal and economic action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
