Mother, daughter killed in Indore Super Corridor accident:Residents block road, protest IDA apathy after repeated pleas for traffic signal ignored

A tragic road accident on Indore’s Super Corridor on Monday morning claimed the lives of a mother and her eight-year-old daughter, while the father was seriously injured. The family, residents of the nearby Tigriya Badshah area, was crossing the road near TCS Square when a speeding truck hit them. According to cops at Aerodrome Police Station, the family belonged to a security guard. The truck struck them with such force that it dragged the mother and child for several feet before stopping. The mother, Kokila Bai, died on the spot, while her daughter, Manu alias Manavi, succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a private hospital. The injured husband is currently under treatment. Locals stage protest, block road Soon after the incident, local residents gathered in large numbers at the accident site and blocked the road in protest, accusing the Indore Development Authority (IDA) and police of negligence. The crowd raised slogans against the authorities and even burnt effigies of officials to express their anger. The protesters said that the TCS Square junction has been a danger zone for over a year, with frequent accidents occurring due to the absence of a traffic signal. Residents claimed they had submitted written complaints to IDA officials and the police, and even lodged grievances on the Chief Minister’s Helpline, demanding a traffic signal and better speed control measures. However, despite repeated appeals, no action was taken except for installing a temporary speed breaker. Police intervention and traffic restoration As the protest intensified, ACP Nidhi Saxena and senior police officers arrived at the spot. They engaged with the residents, assured appropriate action, and managed to end the road blockade after prolonged persuasion. Traffic movement was later restored on the corridor, which witnesses heavy vehicular flow throughout the day due to its connectivity between the airport and Super Corridor IT Park. Bodies sent for post-mortem The bodies of Kokila Bai and her daughter Manu were sent to MY Hospital for post-mortem. The police have seized the truck involved in the accident and launched an investigation to trace the driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the collision. Residents demand permanent safety measures Residents of Tigriya Badshah and nearby colonies have demanded that traffic lights and pedestrian crossings be installed immediately at TCS Square to prevent future accidents. They have also called for stricter speed control and road signage, pointing out that the junction serves hundreds of commuters daily, including employees from nearby IT companies. Locals warned that if their demands are ignored again, they would launch a larger agitation against IDA and the district administration. We have lost two innocent lives today due to official negligence. We warned them several times about this dangerous crossing, but they did nothing. a local resident said during the protest.
