‘Afraid but will burst 10-12 firecrackers’ says Dhirendra Shastri:Bageshwar Dham chief challenges those ‘preaching’ against crackers this Diwali

Peethadhishwar Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham, Khajuraho, has returned after an 18-day journey. On the occasion of Diwali, he expressed his intention to burst firecrackers, despite concerns raised by others. He said, “Though we are aware of the dangers, today we will burst 10–12 firecrackers to uphold tradition and resist those who preach against them.” Diwali celebrations at Bageshwar Dham Diwali is being celebrated with great devotion at Bageshwar Dham. A large number of devotees and disciples are expected to gather on Monday to celebrate with Pandit Dhirendra Shastri. Special prayers will be offered at the Bageshwar Balaji and Bageshwar Mahadev temples at night. No Darbar on Diwali Pandit Shastri informed that no Darbar (audience) will be held on Diwali. He extended Diwali greetings to all devotees and suggested a remedy for financial problems. He instructed devotees to tie a red sacred thread (mouli) around an earthen pot, draw a swastika, write ‘Om Shreem’ in vermilion, place a coconut inside, and make a wish. The pot should then be immersed in flowing water. He said this ritual invites the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. When asked about pollution caused by firecrackers and Bollywood actors’ appeals not to burst them, he stated that he would not give advice. He added, “Pollution is a serious issue, but why is it only raised during Hindu festivals? Appeals should respect all religions equally. Festivals should promote happiness, peace, and mutual respect.” Upholding tradition Pandit Shastri emphasised that bursting firecrackers is part of Diwali tradition. He encouraged devotees to celebrate festivals in a way that spreads joy and respects the feelings of all communities.
