A shocking case has emerged in Gwalior where worms were discovered in Azithromycin Oral Suspension syrup, an antibiotic given to children. A woman raised the complaint, prompting the Drug Department to immediately halt distribution of the syrup. Samples have been sent to a Bhopal laboratory for testing, and a state-wide investigation into this medicine has begun. The incident took place at the Maternity Hospital under the District Hospital Murar. On Tuesday, a doctor provided Azithromycin syrup from the hospital’s medicine distribution centre to a woman visiting the OPD with her child. Upon opening the bottle, the woman noticed black worm-like particles in the syrup. She reported this to Civil Surgeon Dr RK Sharma, who swiftly launched an inquiry. The Drug Department has recalled all consignments of this batch sent to various distribution centres. As a precaution, samples of other medicines have also been collected for testing. Investigation into distribution across districts Preliminary reports reveal the syrup consignment was supplied from a government store in Bhopal. The Drug Department is now tracing the batch number to determine if this contaminated medicine has reached other districts and is continuing a thorough investigation.
