4-month-old-foetus-found-abandoned-in-kamla-nagar:residents-spot-it-lying-in-garbage;-dogs-seen-mutilating-it,-police-launch-probe

Residents of the Rahul Nagar slum in the Kamla Nagar area of Bhopal were left horrified on Thursday afternoon when they discovered a four-month-old foetus lying on a heap of garbage, being mauled by stray dogs. The chilling sight, as per police, triggered panic and outrage in the locality, prompting immediate police intervention. Police recover foetus, send it for autopsy According to eyewitnesses, locals raised an alarm after spotting the foetus around 12:30 pm and quickly informed Kamla Nagar police. A team led by Kamla Nagar Police Station House Officer (SHO) Nirupa Pandey reached the site and rescued the remains from the stray dogs. The foetus was sent to Hamidia Hospital, where post-mortem proceedings are underway. SHO Pandey told Bhaskar English that the foetus had been severely mutilated from the waist down by the dogs by the time police arrived. “We have registered a case and initiated a probe into the matter. An FIR is being registered under relevant sections,” she said. Illegal abortion suspected by cops A preliminary probe carried out by the police suggests that the foetus may have been dumped following an illegal abortion in order to conceal the act. Police believe that those involved deliberately disposed of the remains in a public garbage dump. Cops scanning CCTV footage The investigating police officials have started scanning CCTV cameras in and around Rahul Nagar to trace any movements linked to the dumping of the foetus. In parallel, teams are questioning hospitals, private clinics and medical practitioners in the vicinity to identify whether an illegal abortion procedure was conducted recently. The incident has drawn attention to the grave issue of clandestine abortions and unsafe medical practices, raising concerns about both public health and crime.
