A teenage boy allegedly hanged himself inside the washroom of his house in Bhopal’s Awadhpuri area on September 23, 2025, the police reported on Thursday. On Wednesday, the boy, who had been rushed to Nagpur by his kin for treatment, died, following which the Nagpur police alerted the Awadhpuri police of the city. The cops have registered an FIR and are delving into the details of the incident, they said. Boy named Shashank Chourey Awadhpuri police station house officer (SHO) Ratanlaal Singh Parihar told Bhaskar English that the boy who took the extreme step has been identified as Shashank Chourey (13). He was a student of Class 8 at a private school in Bhopal. He used to reside with his parents at the Crystal campus colony in Awadhpuri, the police came to know. Chourey hanged himself inside washroom On September 23, 2025, Chourey went to the washroom, while his parents were engaged in household work. Inside the washroom, he tied a noose around his neck and hanged himself. However, when he kicked the bucket, a sound emerged from the washroom, and his parents were alerted. They broke the washroom’s door open, to find him hanging inside. His parents rushed him to the AIIMS Hospital in Bhopal, where he underwent treatment for several days. When his condition deteriorated, his kin decided to take him to Nagpur for treatment. On Wednesday, Chourey died during treatment in Nagpur, following which the Nagpur police registered a Zero FIR and transferred the case to Bhopal’s Awadhpuri police for probe. SHO Parihar said that the extreme step behind the boy’s suicide has still not been learnt, and his parents’ statements are yet to be recorded.
