A devastating road accident unfolded in rural Bhopal’s Berasia area on Wednesday evening, claiming the lives of a couple and their young son, while their daughter was grievously injured, the police said. The incident, as per police, occurred at around 4 pm when a high-speed car rammed into the family’s bike, dragging them nearly 50 metres before coming to a halt. According to the police, the accused driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The cops said that they have registered a case of unnatural death, and a manhunt is underway to trace the accused. Victims were natives of UP Berasia police station house officer (SHO) Ashish Sapre told Bhaskar English that the deceased have been identified as Pradeep Shakya (35), his wife Radha, and their son Anshu. They hailed from the Kusmara village in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, and had been living in Karond area of Bhopal. On Wednesday afternoon, they were travelling to visit relatives in Berasia when they met the ill-fate. Their daughter, identified as Poorvi, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Hamidia Hospital for treatment, where her condition is critical as of now. Vehicle mangled in the incident Eyewitnesses said the car attempted to overtake and struck the bike with immense force, leaving the two-wheeler mangled beyond recognition. The front portion of the car was also badly damaged. The police were notified about the incident, who rushed to the spot, seized both the vehicles, and lodged them at the police station. The villagers, who were in for a shock after the incident, pelted stones at the abandoned car in anger, further damaging it before the cops managed to control the situation. Police also recovered scattered belongings of the family from the accident site. Eyewitness says Pradeep was dragged up to several metres According to witnesses, Pradeep was trapped under the car and dragged several metres along the road, suffering grievous injuries. His mobile phone was destroyed in the impact too. Documents found in his wallet helped police establish his identity.
