Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh will visit Sheetla Mata Market in Indore today to meet Muslim shopkeepers facing threats. Singh shared the information on social media, highlighting the rising communal tensions in Madhya Pradesh. He had also filed a petition in the Indore High Court regarding the issue, but the scheduled hearing was deferred to November 10. Singh demands action against “communal elements” On social media platform X, Singh said he would meet traders in the Sarafa area who were allegedly being threatened by “highly communal elements” to vacate their shops. He has also informed the Indore Police Commissioner about the matter and demanded strict action against those responsible. BJP leader’s son sparks fresh controversy The controversy deepened after Eklavya Gaur, son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur, appealed to traders to remove Muslim employees from their shops. He had set a September 25 deadline, after which the effects became visible, as many shopkeepers reluctantly dismissed Muslim staff. Traders allege pressure, fear loss of harmony Several traders stated that they did not wish to remove their Muslim employees but were compelled to do so under pressure. They lamented that the age-old tradition of brotherhood and unity was being undermined. Congress escalates its campaign Taking a proactive stand, Congress leaders have begun mobilizing against the issue. State Congress chief Jitu Patwari and senior leader Sajjan Singh Verma recently met Divisional Commissioner Sudama Khade, demanding swift administrative action. Patwari warned that if action was not taken within two days, the party would launch a mass agitation.
