Pakistan kept its chances of reaching the Asia Cup final alive by winning against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets on Tuesday in the Super-4 matchup. It was a low-scoring matchup in which there was a heated exchange between Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed and Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha got angry at his own bowler after losing a review. Amidst all this, Dushmantha Chameera’s bouncer hit Fakhar Zaman’s helmet. This broke his helmet, and he had to change it. Such top moments were the highlight of the match played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, which was even more interesting. We’ll take a detailed look at all those moments but before that let’s explore the only record that was made last night… Record from PAK vs SL Super-4 game Pakistan-Sri Lanka Match Top Moments 1. Abrar and Hasaranga tease each other with their own celebration On the first ball of the 13th over, Abrar Ahmed clean bowled Wanindu Hasaranga. Not only that, the Pakistani spinner taunted Hasaranga with his celebration. He raised both hands near his shoulders and celebrated by shaking his clenched fists, just like how Hasaranga celebrates his wickets. Here, the Sri Lankan team lost their sixth wicket. Hasaranga was out after scoring 15 runs. However, the Sri Lankan all-rounder returned the favour as he took brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Fakhar Zaman. Later on, he scalped the wickets of Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha. On all three occasions, he mimicked the celebration of Abrar Ahmed. 1. Kusal Mendis returns to the pavilion on the first ball At Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bowl. Batting after losing the toss, the Sri Lankan team lost a wicket in the very first over. Their opener, Kusal Mendis, returned to the pavilion on his first ball. Talat Hussain caught him off Shaheen Shah Afridi’s bowling. Kusal wanted to flick Shaheen’s full-length ball, but due to bad timing, the ball went straight to Hussain Talat standing at mid-wicket. Kusal Mendis could not even score a single run. 2. Hussain Talat takes wickets on consecutive balls Talat Hussain, bowling the 8th over of the Sri Lankan innings, took wickets on consecutive balls. He… Even in his first over, Hussain Talat conceded just 4 runs. 4. Salman got enraged at Abrar after losing review Pakistanis appealed for LBW against Chamika Karunaratne on the 5th ball of the 15th over, but the field umpire denied it. At Abrar Ahmed’s desperate plea, captain Salman Agha asked for a review. The replay showed that the ball did not hit either the batsman’s bat or pad. Rather, the ball deflected off Karunaratne’s hand. While Pakistan did not get the wicket, the team lost a review. It made captain Salman furious at Abrar Ahmed. 5. Kamindu Mendis departed after scoring fifty Kamindu Mendis completed his fifty in the 19th over. He took two runs on the third ball of Shaheen Shah Afridi’s over and completed his third fifty. On the very next ball, Shaheen Afridi got him LBW. The field umpire had rejected Pakistan’s appeal on this ball, but captain Salman took the review and Kamindu was given LBW out. 6. Chamira’s bouncer hits Fakhar Zaman’s helmet In the second over of Pakistan’s innings, Dushmantha Chameera’s short-length ball hit Fakhar Zaman’s helmet. However, he was not injured. As per ICC protocol, the physio came onto the field and conducted Fakhar Zaman’s medical observation. The ball’s speed and impact was so intense that Fakhar had to change his helmet after the delivery. 7. Hasaranga takes one-handed diving catch Maheesh Theekshana, who was bowling the last over of the powerplay, got Fakhar Zaman (17 runs) and Sahibzada Farhan (24 runs) caught out. On the 5th ball of the over, Wanindu Hasaranga took a one-handed catch at mid-off. Fakhar even bashed the ball on Theekshana’s fuller delivery. Hasaranga, standing in the gully direction, dived to his right and took a one-handed catch. Thanks to this catch, the Pakistani opener, who got a good start, returned to the pavilion during the power play. After taking the catch, Hasaranga shook his neck and mockingly imitated Abrar Ahmed’s celebration to tease him. He didn’t stop there – after bowling out Saim Ayub in the next over, he again teased Abrar in the same style in which the Pakistan bowler celebrates his wickets.
