Kerala’s forests are witnessing an alarming surge in wild elephant deaths, with 827 fatalities recorded in six and a half years. A significant portion, 84 deaths, are attributed to human aggression, including electrocution, poisoning, and explosives. Recent incidents, such as the discovery of nine elephant carcasses in the Pooyamkutty river, have prompted a special investigation into the unnatural deaths.
