Why Tilak Varma was retired out by Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians retired out Tilak Varma during their IPL-2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants due to a finger injury which hampered his ability to hit powerfully. Coach Mahela Jayawardene deemed the tactical decision necessary, but MI eventually fell short of their 204-run chase. TOI has learnt that the decision, which seems harsh on the face of it on the talented batter, was purely taken as Tilak is suffering from a niggle in a finger.
