Passengers flying from Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Air Terminal in Gwalior will have fewer flight options from July 1, as airlines have reduced services under the revised summer schedule. Instead of adding more flights, the new timetable cuts the frequency of flights on the Mumbai and Delhi routes, while the Bengaluru service remains unchanged and will continue to operate three days a week. IndiGo has reduced its Mumbai service from a daily flight to four flights a week, operating only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The airline had been operating an Airbus on the route, with the flight recording around 90% seat occupancy. Akasa Air has also cut its Delhi service. The flight, which earlier operated three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, will now run only on Monday and Friday. The revised schedule will come into effect from July 1, 2026. Why have flights decreased? Rising operating costs are the reason The increase in crude oil prices has made aviation fuel expensive. Fuel constitutes a major part of the total operating cost. After the increase in costs, airlines are cutting less-demanded routes and additional frequencies to reduce financial losses. Under this, flights to cities like Gwalior have been reduced. Impact of cuts on passengers: With the reduction in the number of flights, passengers will face difficulty in planning their travel, and there is also a possibility of an increase in airfares due to the decrease in the number of available seats. The reduction in direct connectivity for Mumbai-Delhi may also adversely affect the business class.
