A fresh controversy has surfaced in the assault case involving Devraj Singh Gurjar, son of Congress MLA Dinesh Gurjar, outside the MLA Rest House at Arera Hills in Bhopal. The mother of one of the accused, Lucky Yadav, has approached Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar, alleging that the police ignored her family’s complaint and failed to act against those who assaulted her sons. In her complaint, she alleged that Devraj Gurjar and his associates first assaulted her two sons near the MLA Rest House. She further claimed that the two were beaten again inside the Arera Hills police station in the presence of police personnel. The woman alleged that her sons suffered serious injuries and had to be admitted to hospital. She claimed the police did not register their complaint because of pressure from influential people. She has sought action against those responsible. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the allegations. He said appropriate action would be taken if the claims are found to be true. Family says police ignored complaint Lucky Yadav’s family has alleged that despite approaching the police after the incident, no action was taken on their complaint. Devraj alleges four youths attacked him Devraj Singh Gurjar, meanwhile, has maintained that he was the victim of the assault. According to him, the incident took place around 12.30 am on June 24 while he was walking in the balcony of his residence at the MLA Rest House in Malviya Nagar. He said he noticed four youths drinking alcohol outside the premises and asked them to leave. He alleged that the youths abused him and then came towards the staircase of the residence, demanding money to buy liquor. When he refused, they allegedly assaulted him and snatched some of his belongings. Says friends intervened and saved him Devraj said his friends — Harsh, Maan and Saurabh Bakoriya — rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion and intervened to stop the assault. He alleged that the four men threatened him before leaving, saying they would not spare him the next time. They identified themselves as Vicky, Pankaj, Mayank and Soh, he claimed. Devraj later underwent a medical examination at JP Hospital and lodged a complaint at the Arera Hills police station. Based on his complaint, police registered a case against the accused under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
