The Madhya Pradesh High Court will hear Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s petition challenging a summons issued by a Bhopal MP-MLA court in a defamation case filed by Kartikeya Singh Chouhan, son of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The High Court had earlier directed the special court to produce the case order sheet, which is expected to be placed before the bench during Tuesday’s hearing. Defamation complaint over 2018 speech The case stems from a 2018 election rally in Jhabua, where Rahul Gandhi allegedly referred to the Panama Papers leak and mentioned the names of then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his son, Kartikeya. Kartikeya Singh Chouhan claimed the remarks damaged his reputation and subsequently filed a defamation complaint. Rahul Gandhi seeks quashing of summons Rahul Gandhi has argued that the summons issued by the trial court requires judicial review and has requested the High Court to quash it. He has also maintained that he later clarified he intended to refer to the son of then Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh but mistakenly mentioned Kartikeya Singh Chouhan’s name.
