Police have arrested and jailed Mukesh Sharma in connection with the murder of Kailash Modi in Guru Nanak Colony. During interrogation, the accused allegedly told investigators that he had been prevented from entering the temple premises for the past eight months, which left him deeply resentful and ultimately led to the fatal attack. According to Annapurna police, Sharma showed no remorse during questioning and claimed that Kailash Modi had turned his family members, including his brothers, against him. Temple access restrictions allegedly triggered the attack The accused reportedly told police that his family had been associated with the temple’s cleaning and maintenance for nearly 40 years. However, he claimed he was no longer allowed to enter or stay within the temple premises, leading to growing resentment. Police allege that this long-running dispute culminated in Sharma suddenly attacking Kailash Modi and killing him. Temple management had restricted his presence Investigators said Kailash Modi had invested a significant portion of his lifetime savings in the construction and development of the nearly 80-year-old temple and was responsible for overseeing its management. During the investigation, police found that Sharma had allegedly been troubling visitors to the temple. As a result, Modi had reportedly informed the family that only Sharma’s two brothers and their families would be permitted to stay on the premises, while Mukesh himself was not allowed to reside in or around the temple complex. Family had distanced itself from the accused Police said Mukesh Sharma is unmarried and had become estranged from his family due to alleged substance abuse. His brothers and other relatives had reportedly distanced themselves from him and no longer wished to maintain contact. Investigators also revealed that proceedings to extern Sharma from the district were already underway before the incident. A notice had reportedly been prepared, but police were unable to serve it because he had been evading authorities. The investigation into the murder is ongoing.
