Indore’s Kanika Raghuvanshi has brought glory to the city by completing a mountaineering course at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) located in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh. Among the participants in this rigorous training, Kanika secured a place in the top-5. Kanika, a first-year BBA student at Umiya Kanya College in Rau, climbed the Gorichen Glacier at an altitude of 16,460 feet with a 12 kg backpack during this challenging course. During this time, many participants began to lose courage, but Kanika completed this difficult journey on the strength of her initial preparation. Kanika shared that on the advice of Captain Namrata Sawant, ANO of 1 MP Girls Battalion NCC, she had practiced running with bricks in her bag before joining the course. This preparation proved very useful during the glacier climb. Training received on Asia’s largest climbing wall During the course, participants were given practice on Asia’s largest artificial climbing wall. Besides this, training was provided in several adventure activities such as jungle survival, tracking, river crossing, and rock climbing. They were also taught to set up tents themselves and cook food for living in the jungle. Also showed prowess in Ice climbing Kanika mentioned that during the training, she secured second place in a one-mile race that was organized. After this, she was taken to Jitang (13,500 feet) and Merathang Camp (14,700 feet). From here, the 16,460-foot climb to Gorichen Glacier began, where she also practiced ice climbing.
