Madhya Pradesh’s Central Jail Colony, considered a safe place, the home of a responsible jail officer and his innocent 16-year-old daughter. No one had ever imagined that in a place where the guardians of law reside, such a heinous crime would occur that would shake the soul of the entire state. This is the story of a murder that proved that danger doesn’t always come from outside, but sometimes it lurks within the house, hidden behind our trust. Read the full story February 21, 1996: A frightening morning and that blue frock The date was February 21, 1996. It was morning, and suddenly there was a commotion behind Quarter No.-Y in Madhya Pradesh’s Central Jail Colony. A crowd of policemen and local residents had gathered in one place; everyone held their breath, and their eyes were fixed on the septic tank built behind the house. This house belonged to Assistant Jailer B.S. Verma (name changed). Verma’s 16-year-old daughter Tina (name changed) had been missing for the past 24 hours. The entire family and neighborhood searched for her all night, but no clue was found. That morning, when Verma went behind the house to milk the cow, his eyes fell upon the septic tank. Day of the incident: February 20, 1996 The beginning of this horrific outcome was a day earlier. Assistant Jailer Verma lived in his quarters with his two daughters, 16-year-old Tina and 12-year-old Kshipra (name changed). His wife and other family members had gone out of town those days. Tina was a tenth-grade student and was busy preparing for her board exams. Around 7 AM, younger sister Kshipra went to school. Tina and her father remained at home. Then, as usual, two people arrived for work. The first was Molai, who was a guard in the jail, and the second was Santosh, a convicted prisoner who took care of the garden at Verma’s house. These two had been coming and going from the house for a long time and had earned the family’s unwavering trust. At 9 AM, when Verma left for his duty, there were only three people in the house: Tina, Molai, and Santosh. The Scream That Was Ignored Around 10 AM, the jailer’s wife and their daughter Prachi, who lived in the neighborhood, heard a loud scream. The sound came from Verma’s house, and the barking of dogs was also heard. Both went outside, but they didn’t see anything unusual. Boys were playing cricket in the nearby field and the ball often fell into the boundaries of houses, so they ignored it, considering it normal noise. Around 11 o’clock, Prachi reached Tina’s house to return an audio cassette. She called out several times, but there was no answer from inside. Searched all night, found nothing At 12 noon, when younger sister Kshipra returned from school, she also got the same response. However, she found something strange. One room of the house was locked from the inside. After some time, Santosh left from there, but Molai stayed there. He gave Kshipra two samosas and said that Tina had ordered them for her. When the father returned from duty at 1:30 PM, he was told that Tina had gone out. Her bicycle was also not at home, so initially no one was worried. But as evening fell, the uneasiness grew. Tina was neither with any friends nor with relatives. The search continued all night. Post-mortem Report: The Height of Brutality After the body was found the next morning and the post-mortem was conducted, the facts that emerged shocked even the police. The report confirmed that Tina was first raped and then strangled to death. The killers were so cruel that they had also attacked the body with a knife. Suspicion fell on those who were involved in the search The needle of the police investigation immediately pointed to Molai and Santosh. They were the last people to see Tina alive. But their spontaneity and Molai’s involvement in the search all night long confused the police. In such a situation, these questions arose- The police finally found answers to these questions. The next part of this sensational case is even more shocking.
