‘You won’t have to kill me, I’ll hang myself’:8-year-old recounts parents’ final argument before tragedy in Jabalpur

In Jabalpur’s Adhartal area, a deeply disturbing case has come to light in which a young child witnessed the tragic events leading to the death of his mother, Neha Singh, and later the suicide of his stepfather, Mayank. The child is now in shock and is narrating what he saw to the police. According to the child’s statement, on the night of June 3, a heated argument again broke out between his mother and father. Mayank reportedly picked up a knife in anger. Neha then said she would end her life herself. The child told police that Mayank placed a noose in the room. As Neha stood on a table to put the noose around her neck, Mayank allegedly pushed the table, causing her to hang. After some time, he cut the rope and brought her down, but by then she had already died. Father kept saying – Mommy is resting The minor further told police that his mother’s body remained inside the house throughout the night. When he asked about it, his father told him that “mother is resting”. After this, Mayank took the child to another room and slept. The next day, he dropped the child at his sister’s house on a scooter. Police investigation revealed that Neha Singh’s first husband had died earlier. In 2024, she met Mayank from Katni during a family function. They later married with family consent and started living in a rented house in Adhartal. Neha was living with her 8-year-old son from her first marriage along with Mayank. Neha was found during raid at spa center In January 2025, Neha was found during a police raid at a spa centre in Vijay Nagar. After this incident, frequent disputes began between the couple. Mayank did not want Neha to work at the spa centre, but she continued working there. In April 2025, Neha moved to Indore for work. However, she used to visit Jabalpur every 15–20 days to meet her son and also provided financial support to the family. Dispute escalated between the two on June 3 Neha returned to Jabalpur on May 30. On the night of June 3, the argument between the couple escalated severely and eventually turned fatal. After the incident, Mayank kept the child with him for two days. On June 5, he dropped the child at his sister’s house and went to the GCF ruins, where he first wrote a suicide note. When a security guard noticed him, he fled, leaving behind his bike and the note. Police had been searching for him. Made a noose by hammering a nail into the wall On Saturday, Mayank’s body was found hanging in the same abandoned building. He had created a noose by fixing a nail into a wall and used it to hang himself. In his suicide note, he wrote that he had killed his wife Neha and expressed remorse. He also accused his mother-in-law and sister-in-law of harassment. An application written against his wife was also found Ranjhi police station in-charge Umesh Golhani said that Mayank’s body was found hanging, and a suicide note along with a written complaint against his wife was recovered from the spot. The complaint was reportedly meant to be submitted to the police.
