Instead of the usual intense heat and heatwave conditions during Nautapa, Madhya Pradesh is witnessing thunderstorms, rain and hailstorms this year. Light drizzle was reported in parts of Bhopal on Sunday morning, while rain was recorded in Maihar and Umaria later in the day. The ropeway at the Sharda Mata Temple in Maihar had to be suspended due to bad weather. In Satna, strong winds were followed by dark clouds and heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The pre-monsoon shower lasted around 45 minutes and led to waterlogging in several areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an orange alert for heavy rain and hailstorms has been issued for Dewas, Sehore, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Chhatarpur, Katni and Shahdol districts. Orange alert for heavy rain and hail in 8 districts The IMD’s Bhopal centre has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and hailstorms in Dewas, Sehore, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Chhatarpur, Katni, Maihar, Umaria and Shahdol. Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and light rain are also expected in the remaining districts. No heatwave warning has been issued anywhere in the state. Rain continues across half the state More than 20 districts received rainfall on Saturday. In Bhopal, strong winds blew between 12:30 am and 3 am, causing power outages in several localities. Tikamgarh received around 1.25 inches of rain, while Datia recorded nearly half an inch and Naugaon around three-quarters of an inch. Rainfall activity was also reported in Gwalior, Indore, Dhar, Guna, Ratlam, Ujjain, Damoh, Khajuraho, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Umaria, Khargone, Shivpuri, Dindori, Mandsaur, Khandwa, Shajapur, Dewas, Jhabua, Tikamgarh, Morena, Betul, Balaghat and Sheopur. Hailstorms were reported in Sheopur. Temperatures drop sharply Day temperatures have fallen sharply across the state. Until a few days ago, Naugaon in Chhatarpur district was the second-hottest city in Madhya Pradesh. However, temperatures there have dropped by around 12 degrees. The maximum temperature in Naugaon was 46.6°C on May 27, but fell to 35.5°C on Saturday. According to the Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures remained below 40°C in 20 cities on Saturday. Among the major cities, Gwalior recorded 35.6°C, Jabalpur 38.2°C, Indore 38.8°C, Ujjain 39°C and Bhopal 40°C. Narsinghpur hottest in the state Narsinghpur was the hottest city in the state on Saturday with a maximum temperature of 43.2°C, followed by Rajgarh at 42°C. Temperatures remained below 40°C in Narmadapuram, Guna, Sagar, Ratlam, Betul, Chhindwara, Dhar, Umaria, Sheopur, Seoni, Satna, Rewa, Khajuraho, Pachmarhi and Datia. Weather Likely to Remain Active Over the Next Few Days The Meteorological Department has forecast continued thunderstorm and rainfall activity across Madhya Pradesh over the coming days. Rain, strong winds and hailstorms are expected to dominate weather conditions, while no heatwave warning has been issued for the state.
