Rajya Sabha member and former MP Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has targeted the central government and the Election Commission over the Supreme Court’s decision regarding SIR. He said that legal sanction might give validity at first glance, but it does not eliminate the malicious intent of the Modi government in implementing the process. Posting on social media platform Facebook on Wednesday, Digvijaya Singh said that the Election Commission hastily pushed forward the SIR process without any proper reason. The entire process was aimed at removing voters’ names first and asking questions later. He alleged that this haste was so serious that the Supreme Court itself had to intervene and implement safeguards. Attempt to tilt the political balance in their favour The former Chief Minister said that the Modi government in the country is facing huge public anger over its failed governance system. Unable to face voters in a fair contest, the government is now trying to decide who can vote and who cannot. He alleged that attempts are being made to manipulate voter lists to shift the political balance in their favor. Names of selected voters are being removed Digvijaya Singh said that whether it is Bengal or Bihar, the same situation is being seen everywhere. A large number of selected voters’ names are being removed and then they are being forced to go through an appeal process, which proves to be arbitrary and ultimately futile. He said that the Supreme Court has given a decision on the question of law, but respectful disagreement can be expressed with it. The entire process is full of flaws He also said that the Supreme Court itself directed the Election Commission to make public the list of deleted voters. It was also asked to publish the reasons for deleting names and to accept Aadhaar cards, even though the Election Commission was initially refusing to do so. Digvijaya Singh alleged that the entire process was full of flaws and based on malicious intent. Despite receiving legal approval, serious questions remain about its implementation.
