A growing stray dog menace has become a major concern at the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain. A two-day-old video has gone viral showing a female employee writhing in pain after being bitten by a dog near the Sabha Mandap area of the temple. Fear among devotees and local residents has increased due to the rising number of stray dog attacks across the city, including the Mahakal Temple premises. Following strict remarks by the Supreme Court, people are now hoping for relief from the problem. Several dog-bite incidents have been reported in the Mahakal Temple premises over the past two years. In the video that surfaced on Tuesday, a female employee was seen being bitten by a dog. After the attack, the woman was injured and people nearby gathered to help her. Meanwhile, the dog that bit her continued roaming inside the temple premises, but no one attempted to drive it away. Packs of stray dogs in these areas Packs of stray dogs have become a threat to people at the railway station, bus stand, Mahakaleshwar Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple, Mangalnath Temple, Sandipani Ashram area, as well as in colonies and roads across the city. Devotees arriving from across the country are repeatedly becoming victims of such attacks. 2439 people bitten by dogs in four months In Ujjain, 2,439 people have been bitten by dogs between January and April this year. Apart from this, 192 people were injured in attacks by cats, monkeys and horses. Despite the continuously rising cases in the city, effective control measures have not yet been implemented. Earlier, a woman devotee from Delhi was also injured after being attacked by dogs at the temple. She was immediately treated at the Mahakal Temple hospital. Supreme Court said – Public safety is the top priority Recently, the Supreme Court made strong observations over the rising stray dog attacks, stating that public safety in public places is the highest priority. The court directed authorities to remove stray dogs from crowded areas and ensure effective control measures.
