A 24-year-old rape survivor created a commotion at the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Gwalior on Monday after allegedly attempting to harm herself with a knife during a conversation with police officials. Police personnel present at the office immediately intervened, snatched the knife from her hand, and prevented a major incident. Survivor distressed over accused’s proposed marriage According to officials, the accused in the rape case is currently out on bail and is allegedly preparing to marry another woman. The survivor, reportedly distressed over the development, reached the SP office demanding that the marriage be stopped. Woman accuses man of rape on false promise of marriage The woman alleged that she was in a relationship with a man identified as Kulbhushan Rahul (30), a resident of Bhander in Datia district. According to her complaint, the accused had promised to marry her, following which the two remained in a relationship for a long period. The survivor alleged that the accused repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marriage. She claimed that when she began pressuring him to marry her, he started distancing himself. FIR registered earlier, accused was sent to jail The woman stated that the alleged sexual assault took place between May 20, 2024, and April 4, 2026. She had filed a complaint at Jhansi Road Police Station in Gwalior in April 2026, after which police registered an FIR against Kulbhushan Rahul. The accused was arrested and sent to jail in April 2026. However, he was later released on bail. The survivor alleged that after coming out of jail, the accused began preparations to marry another woman. Woman pulled out knife during discussion Eyewitnesses said the woman became emotional while speaking with police officials at the SP office. During the conversation, she suddenly pulled out a knife she was carrying and allegedly tried to harm herself. Police personnel immediately restrained her and seized the knife, preventing any injury. Police counselled survivor Following the incident, women police personnel and senior officials took the survivor to a separate room and counselled her. Officials assured her that the matter would be investigated seriously and that legal action would be taken according to law. The woman was later calmed down by the police.
