A 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her former boyfriend in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district on Thursday. The accused reportedly slit her throat with a sharp weapon inside her house in Mandideep and also attacked her mother when she tried to intervene. He fled the scene after the crime. The victim, identified as Sanjna Mohbe, lived with her mother Sangita Mohbe in a rented house in Ward No. 9 of Prem Nagar. Her blood-soaked body was found near a blue plastic drum inside the house, while blood stains were scattered across the room. Dispute erupted over old case According to police, accused Manoj Ahirwar had visited Sanjna’s house in the afternoon to discuss an old case involving the two. During the conversation, an argument broke out and Sanjna along with her mother allegedly forced him to leave the house. Police said Manoj returned shortly afterwards and the dispute escalated between 2.30 pm and 3 pm. In a fit of rage, he allegedly attacked Sanjna with a sharp weapon and slit her throat, killing her on the spot. Mother injured while trying to save daughter When Sanjna’s mother Sangita tried to rescue her daughter, the accused allegedly attacked her as well, leaving her injured. She was later admitted to the civil hospital in Mandideep, where she is undergoing treatment. The incident triggered panic in the neighbourhood, and local residents informed the police. Officers from Mandideep police station reached the spot and began an investigation. Accused had eloped with minor earlier According to the accused’s wife, Tulsi Ahirwar, Manoj had eloped with Sanjna around one-and-a-half years ago. A case related to the incident is still pending in court, and Manoj had recently been released from jail on bail. She claimed he had gone to Sanjna’s house to discuss settling the matter. Tulsi also said that she and Manoj have a nine-month-old daughter and that she was staying at her parental home at the time of the incident. She said she had no knowledge of what happened inside the house. Police scanning CCTV footage, accused absconding Mandideep police station in-charge Ranjit Sarathe said the body was handed over to the family after postmortem examination. Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and searching for the absconding accused. A case has been registered and investigation is underway from all angles.
