NCRB report gives mixed picture for Indore:Crime cases drop by 36% in 3 years, but crime rate still double national average

The 2024 report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has given Indore both relief and a warning simultaneously. Relief because the graph of total crimes in the city has fallen sharply in the last three years. While 27,127 cases were registered in 2022, they have decreased to 17,360 in 2024. But a warning: Indore’s crime rate (crimes per one lakh population) is 801.1, almost double the national average of 418.9. Indore ranks 6th in rape cases: Even after 4.5 years of the police commissionerate system being implemented, Indore ranks 6th in rape cases. At the same time, cities like Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Patna, Nagpur, Surat, and Ghaziabad are below us. 25 cases of molestation of women and children were registered in shelter homes, which is the highest among all metropolitan cities. There were 32,765 cases in 2022, which decreased to 32,342 in 2023. In 2024, an average of more than 90 women’s crimes were registered daily in the state. With 3061 cases of rape, MP ranked fourth in the country. Violent crimes increased by 47%
