In Devas district of Madhya Pradesh, a shocking incident took place where members of a boy’s family allegedly abducted the girl’s parents after an engagement fixed in childhood was broken. The accused allegedly assaulted the couple and humiliated them by making them wear garlands made of shoes and slippers. Police later reached the spot after receiving information and rescued the couple. The incident occurred on April 30 in the Sonkatch area, while the video of the assault surfaced on Saturday. The victim couple from Ujjain had come to Bhatkunda village in Sonkatch to attend a condolence event. While returning, they were stopped by the accused. Forcibly made to sit in car and taken to Teebupura According to the allegations, the accused forcibly made the husband and wife sit in a car and took them to Tibupura village under Ashta tehsil. There, they were beaten and humiliated by making them wear garlands of shoes and slippers. It is also alleged that jewellery belonging to the couple was snatched. The viral video reportedly shows women also participating in the assault. Engagement took place 10 years ago, now broken As per information, the engagement between both families was fixed nearly 10 years ago. Recently, the girl’s side broke the engagement and arranged her marriage elsewhere, which allegedly angered the boy’s side. The accused were reportedly pressuring the family for a forced marriage. Refused marriage as she is a minor The victim’s father said the marriage was refused as their daughter is a minor, following which they decided to break the engagement. The matter had also been discussed at the community level several times, but the dispute continued. The couple has alleged that they were assaulted and injured during the incident. Their jewellery was also looted, according to the complaint. Case filed against 4 accused, one arrested Police have registered a case against four accused — Bhadar, Babusingh, Prabhu and Gora Banjara, residents of Tibupura — under charges of kidnapping, assault and other sections. One accused has been arrested, while searches for others are underway. Police said – dispute over marriage Sonkatch police station in-charge Ajay Gurjar said there was a dispute between both sides regarding marriage. ASP Jaiveer Singh Bhadauria stated that the accused assaulted and misbehaved with the complainant, and the investigation is ongoing.
